FULL SCREEN DRILL Each number below is a link to a page for that verse number. On each page you'll find audio clips for each phrase. Play the phrase and repeat it outloud. Continue to repeat – listening and reciting over and over again until you are comfortable with it and the syllables roll off your tongue and make your mouth happy and your heart sing as you recite. Next to each phrase are two to three lines of notation. The top line will always have the official Sanskrit transliteration, just as you'll find it in the Hard Light version of the Guru Gita book. It follows a standard and fixed format for mapping the Sanskrit devanagari to English letters. The second line of notation is a more free form rendering of how to break up the syllables and pronounce them as you would if you were reading English out loud. It's a less formal kind of guide for you to use, but may be the easiest place for you to start. Read it as you listen the first few times to each phrase. The third line of notes will only be included whenever there is something of particular interest about the phrase, either from a pronunciation point of view, or in meaning and translation. Click to download 'flash' cards for each verse. You can print these on card stock or heavier paper and use them to help your studies. Print as many as you like - mark them up with pronunciation reminders or your own notes - tape them to the mirror as you brush your teeth - enjoy! (Grateful thanks to Pamela for creating these beautiful cards) Throughout the course, you will see keywords which are highlighted in yellow and their definitions in English are in red. These are to help you peg the meaning of the verse to a few important Sanskrit words. In some cases, you'll see the meaning of words, but the word is not highlighted. Only those most critical keywords are highlighted, so you can really focus on this technique, without feeling that you have to know complete word-by-word translations. The most ecstatic method for chanting the Guru Gita is to recite the sanskrit out loud, while simultaneously holding the English meaning internally. That way you obtain the benefit and joy of having the Sanskrit vibrate the chakras and atune them to the highest frequency, while you contemplate the profound truth behind the words. To do this, the trick is to 1) be very familiar with the meaning of the verse from the English; and 2) know the translations of a few of the Sanskrit words in each verse. Then as you recite it, you recognize these keywords and they joyously trigger the whole meaning of the entire verse. Dedication: Here's an idea... you may want to start incorporating the last line of the Guru Gita into each and every study session you have. No matter what you have studied, offer it up to the feet of the Guru. Shri gurudeva charanaar panamastu I offer this Guru Gita at the revered lotus feet of my Guru.
