The photo on the screen depicts the astronomical event that will occur next week. Just after sunset on the evening of December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will appear closer together in Earth’s night sky than they have been since the Middle Ages. Astronomers say that you’d have to go back to just before dawn on March 4, 1226, to see a closer alignment between these objects visible in the night sky.
On the evening of closest approach on December 21, they will look like a double planet. The meeting of these two planets in such proximity is referred to as the Great Conjunction. Some say that this conjunction created the appearance of the Star of Bethlehem and was the astronomical event sometime between 7 and 2 BCE, which according to Christian tradition, the Magi followed to reach the birthplace of Jesus Christ.

Jupiter-Saturn cycles are one of the most powerful and influential in our solar system dynamics. Jupiter’s magnetic field creates a vast, intense, and complex magnetosphere larger than the Sun’s diameter and envelops the orbit of Saturn.
Jupiter imparts a warming, expansive, and mobilizing force. Saturn imparts a cooling, contracting, and solidifying force. Jupiter is inclusive and embracing, while Saturn is exclusive and segregating. Saturn forces us to confront our fears, and Jupiter impels us to claim our wisdom.
