This is the transcript of a one-day intensive Mark Griffin gave on November 23, 2013.
“The meditation on the Self is so profound. It arises without object, and you yourself are that consciousness. So it is not similar to meditation when we select an object as a point of focus – such as the breath or a mantra, the body or the mind – because it arises within all things as all things, and anything that is selected is absorbed instantaneously into that ground. So I’ve often thought that in relationship to the process, the method of meditation – where it is a very standard operation to select a point of focus such as the breath, or the mind, or a mantra – that because the Self arises within all things as all things, the way that is the most effective is where we place the consciousness, our awareness in a position of cessation. We simply stop the mind. When all things arise within the Self as the Self, any objectification, however refined or subtle, ends up becoming a layer across which the Self is diffused or masked. The process of stopping the mind is the swiftest way to unveil those layers of consciousness, getting down to the deeper and deeper substrata.”
